During the Second World War, it was impossible to visit the seaside and many beaches were covered in barbed wire to stop invasion by enemy troops. After the war, people started to visit the seaside again because of a need to relax and rewind. They also had a bit more money and could afford to go on holiday. For many children it was their first ever visit to the seaside.
