Our Big Question for the term is 'Why was the HMS Challenger expedition so important?', which links our History topic 'HMS Challeger' and Jacques Cousteau with our Geography topic 'Oceans and Seas'.
Our English writing this term will be based on three main texts: Follow the Moon, Dougal's Deep Sea Diary and Ricky Gervais' Flanimals. These texts will be used to give the children an opportunity to explore writing to inform and writing to entertain. We will be looking at writing fact files, diary entries and short narrative pieces, whilst developing a range of writing skills such as punctuation, adjectives, conjunctions etc.
In Maths, we will begin by looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes, using vocabulary such as vertices, faces and edges. Then the children will develop their understanding of fractions, looking at unit and non-unit fractions, as well as equivalent fractions.
We will also review our basic number skills, focusing on our rapid recall of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts.
Please see the topic web below for more information.
Children will be expected to read most nights in the week for at least 10 minutes.
P.E will be every Wednesday, so make sure that your child comes in to school in the correct kit. Please make sure hair is tied back and that earrings are not worn, if your child is not confident with taking them out.
